Organic Farming

Net Zero Goal has been undertaking projects and schemes of Government of India. According to the guidelines and action plan of the GoI, Net Zero Goal works with poor and medium small-scale farmers to reverse declining farm productivity by developing sustainable farming systems, based on organic agriculture principles. Awareness, Training and Field Demonstrations are some of the important activities included to be followed in Adoption and Certification Programmes of Organic Farming.

It also requires continuous provision of information and development of technical skills to enable smallholders to meet the rigid requirements for participation in the specialized organic product chain. Net Zero Goal works to advance the adoption of organic agriculture, by bringing together all stakeholders such as farmers, farmer organizations, NGOs, extensionists, traders, processors and researchers. Based on the opportunities and expertise, Net Zero Goal is exploring the marketing of products and has taken the responsibility of acquiring products from our producers’ spread across the country. As the procurement is direct from the farmers, we eliminate middlemen and are addressing the need to make organic food reachable to its niche market ultimately to ensure quality, nutritive value, and that too at reasonable price.

Based on professional competency, experience and capacity, Net Zero Goal is presently working with 5 states of our country like Sikkim, Odisha, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, and Gujarat, apart from its own expertise at Sikkim covering around 48000 Ha. Ha area under various crops viz. wheat, paddy, millets, vegetables, fruit crops and cash crops and involving over 60,000 farmers of different sizes of landholdings.

With the growing demand for safe food (especially Organic Food) in sufficient quantity, among the consumers all over the world and its short supply has been a cause of concern. Among the various reasons, it has been found that lack of awareness about the specific practices to the producers is one of the most important reasons.
Realizing this, Net Zero Goal has decided to venture into the activity of Training & Skill development in the field of:

  • - Adoption of Organic farming
  • - Facilitation for Certification
  • - Post-Harvest Management
  • - Market intelligence
  • - Marketing tie-up’s
  • - Sustainable agriculture
  • - Facilitation for certification under organic standard since 2003-04 from the initial phase of Sikkim Organic Initiative.

For this purpose, it has entered into an Adoption and Certification of Organic Agricultural, Horticultural and Cash crops with support of various state governments (through sponsored schemes) in achieving this endeavor.
Net Zero Goal supported many farmers group in Sikkim to promote traditional and then organic contractual farming with buy-back guarantee since 1983.
